How medical scrubs are built

Medical scrubs are a set, a top and a trouser packed together, judged on pocket layout, freedom of movement and how they survive laundering. A common modern cloth is a polyester, rayon and spandex twill with four-way stretch; woven poly-cotton is still made for more traditional programmes.

Tops are cut with working ease, a deeper armhole and usually a V-neck, with reinforced side vents on longer styles. Every pocket corner is bartacked because the pockets carry scissors and devices. Trousers use full elastic, elastic with a drawcord or a rib waistband, often with a gusset.

Finishes: Antimicrobial or fluid-repellent finishes only where named and evidenced for the specific fabric
