Voyager Textile is a medical scrubs manufacturer with its own cutting, sewing and embroidery floor in Türkiye, producing scrub sets and nurse uniforms for medical-apparel brands and uniform suppliers. Every order starts at 300 pieces per colour and per style, sizes can be split inside that 300, and the first sample takes 5-7 business days. Scrub tops, scrub trousers, tunics and lab coats are made to the buyer's fabric, pocket layout, fit, colour, labels and packing; there are no stock styles, and Voyager makes no medical-device or protective claim for the garments it produces.
Scrub Fabrics: Stretch Twill and Polyester-Cotton
Fabric options include polyester, rayon and elastane (spandex) twill and polyester-cotton twill. Assess stretch direction, recovery and suitability for the required laundering on the actual fabric; fibre composition alone does not establish four-way stretch or hot-wash durability. The twill and gabardine page gives polyester-cotton workwear twill at around 195-300 g/m², and 2-5% elastane for stretch wovens; these figures are indicative and specified per project. Composition ranges for stretch scrub cloth are set out on the scrubs process page.
| Fabric | Where it fits | Point to settle before sampling |
|---|---|---|
| Polyester, rayon and spandex twill | Brand scrub sets, nurse uniforms, dental and beauty tunics | Elastane recovery at the waistband and knee after washing at the programme's temperature |
| Polyester-cotton workwear twill, around 195-300 g/m² | Hospital and care-home programmes, lab coats | Shrinkage at the real wash temperature, and shade retention on dark colours |
| Stretch polyester-cotton twill, 2-5% elastane | Scrub trousers and tunics for roles with lifting and kneeling | Its own wash test and fit sample, since stretch changes shrinkage behaviour |
Buyer-supplied fabric is accepted, including imported fabric. Certified materials (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, GRS) can be sourced where specified, subject to availability and certificate scope; a material certificate alone does not establish certification of the factory or finished garment. Antimicrobial, fluid-repellent and soil-release finishes are fabric specifications with test methods behind them: a brand that wants to claim one should have the finish named and evidenced for the exact fabric after the programme's number of washes, as explained in antibacterial and antimicrobial claims.
Construction: Pockets, Necklines, Seams and Waistbands
A scrub set is judged on pocket layout, freedom of movement and how it survives laundering. The full assembly sequence, from pocket sub-assemblies to set packing, is on the scrub and medical uniform manufacturing page.

- Pockets. A chest pocket with pen divisions of stated widths, lower patch pockets at a reachable height, and cargo or utility pockets on the trouser. Specify reinforcement at pocket openings for the expected load, for example bartacks appropriate to the fabric; see pocket construction.
- Seams. Woven main seams are usually a 516 safety stitch, a 401 chainstitch and a 504 overedge formed in one pass, or a 301 lockstitch with finished edges; a double-turned hem sewn with 301 is one finishing option. Stitch and seam classes are explained in garment stitch types and seam types and seam classes.
- Necklines. A faced V-neck is the standard; a mock wrap and a round neck with a placket each need a different facing, covered in linings, facings and interlinings.
- Closures. Tunics and lab coats close with buttons or press studs. Select the closure for the fabric, fastening loads and the specified industrial laundering conditions. See also zip and closure construction.
- Trouser waistbands. Full elastic in a casing, elastic with a drawcord, a flat front with elastic at the back, or a rib waistband, with a gusset where the specification asks for one; see waistband construction.
- Vents. Reinforce the upper ends of side vents on longer tops, where loads concentrate during movement.
Nurse Uniforms and Tunics for Care Homes, Dental, Veterinary and Beauty
Nurse uniforms are the same product as medical scrubs in many buyers' ranges. The table lists the usual starting points by sector; closures, collar shapes and lengths are confirmed per project at the quotation stage.
| Sector | Usual garment | Construction points |
|---|---|---|
| Hospitals and clinics | Scrub set: V-neck top and drawcord or elastic trouser | Colour by role held to approved physical standards; embroidered facility logo |
| Care homes | Hip-length tunic with trousers | Side vents, pockets reachable while standing, polyester-cotton for frequent hot washing with suitability for the specified wash conditions verified |
| Dental practices | Tunic with a side or shoulder press-stud closure | Stand collar or round neck, short sleeves, closure line kept flat after washing |
| Veterinary practices | Scrub set, often in darker shades | Stretch twill for kneeling and lifting, reinforced cargo pockets |
| Beauty and spa | Fitted tunic with trousers, such as a beautician tunic set | Side closure, shaped darts, a cleaner front with fewer pockets |
Lab Coats
A lab coat is a woven coat worn over everyday clothes, cut to the hip or knee, with buttons or press studs down the front, patch pockets at the chest and hips, and a back vent on longer styles. Polyester-cotton twill around 195-300 g/m² is one option; the weight is indicative and specified per project. Verify dimensional stability and colourfastness under the required laundering conditions. Pocket reinforcement and applied name badges can be specified in the design. The catalogue holds one short white lab coat from previous production. A coat intended to protect against a chemical or biological hazard is regulated protective equipment, which Voyager does not make; see when workwear becomes PPE.
Modest Scrub Sets: Longer Tunics, Full Sleeves and Covered Necklines
A modest scrub set can adjust tunic length, sleeve length and neckline together in one design. Each distinct garment style has its own pattern, drafted and graded in Gerber AccuMark. The minimum is 300 pieces per style; confirm how tops and trousers in a set are counted at quotation.
- Longer tunics. A tunic to mid-thigh or knee may need deeper side vents for walking and sitting, and pocket positions measured again so the lower pockets stay reachable.
- Full sleeves. A plain hemmed sleeve, a sleeve with a knitted cuff that can be pushed up, or a separate jersey under-layer in the programme colour made as its own style.
- Covered necklines. A higher V-neck, a round neck with a placket, or a mock wrap with a higher crossing point, each with its own facing.
- Trousers. A straight or wider leg is an option; set the inseam from the buyer’s size chart and check fit and coverage.
Whether a design meets a particular dress code is for the brand and its customers to judge; Voyager makes the garment to the approved specification.
Decoration and Identification
Embroidery is one option for medical scrubs; assess thread, backing and placement for the required laundering. Flat embroidery and transfer printing run in the Voyager factory; facility logos can be embroidered on the chest panel before assembly, and names or roles, which change more often, go on transfers or applied badges. Sublimation also runs in-house but works on polyester fabrics only, so it is rarely the method for scrub twill. Screen printing is coordinated with partner facilities. Placement and size limits are in embroidery placement and size. Where a hospital colour-codes roles, each colour is a programme colour with an approved physical standard; a custom Pantone colour is also 300 pieces per colour and per style, as described in Pantone colour matching. Polyester-based fabrics are assessed separately.
Sizing, Tests and Packing
Sizes are graded to your size chart, and men's, women's and unisex cuts are separate patterns rather than graded variants. A scrub top needs body length from the high point of the shoulder, chest, hem width, sleeve length, V-neck depth and pocket positions; a scrub trouser needs waist relaxed and extended, front and back rise, thigh, inseam per size and leg opening, each with a tolerance. Staff often wear different sizes top and bottom, so decide before ordering whether the programme buys fixed sets or separates. The chart format is in size charts for production.
A buyer can write these tests into a scrubs specification, with the laboratory and acceptance limits agreed per project:
- Dimensional change: washing and drying to ISO 6330 and measurement to ISO 5077 at the programme's actual temperature; see measurement change after washing.
- Industrial laundering: ISO 15797 procedures where the garments go to an industrial laundry.
- Colourfastness: ISO 105-C06 to washing and ISO 105-X12 to rubbing, with particular attention to dark shades; see colourfastness.
- Wear: ISO 12947 abrasion and ISO 12945-2 pilling on the scrub cloth, and ISO 13936 seam slippage on lighter or more open weaves.
Scrubs are packed as sets or separates, by department or by individual, with the size marked on each bag and set pairing checked at final inspection. See folding and polybagging and cartons, assortments and shipping marks.
Are Medical Scrubs Medical Devices? CE, FDA and ISO 13485
Scrubs sold as work clothing are not medical devices, and Voyager makes no device claim for the scrubs it produces. Under Article 2(1) of Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (the Medical Device Regulation), a medical device is an article intended by its manufacturer for a specific medical purpose, such as the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of disease. Article 2(12) defines the intended purpose by what the manufacturer states on the label, in the instructions for use and in promotional material, so a scrub set sold as work clothing states no medical purpose.
In the United States, the FDA classification rule for surgical apparel, 21 CFR 878.4040, covers gowns, masks, caps and similar items worn in the operating room, and states that surgical suits and dresses, "commonly known as scrub suits, are excluded". Surgical gowns are a different, regulated product, and Voyager does not make them.
- CE marking. It belongs only where EU harmonisation legislation requires it, so a CE mark on an ordinary scrub set is wrong; see GPSR for apparel.
- ISO 13485:2016. The quality management standard for organisations in the medical-device supply chain. It is not a product certification for the garment.
- Protective claims. A garment sold to protect the wearer against infective agents or chemicals is personal protective equipment under Regulation (EU) 2016/425, a separate conformity route explained in when workwear becomes PPE.
What Changes the Unit Cost of Medical Scrubs
The unit cost of custom medical scrubs moves with the fabric composition and weight (stretch twill or polyester-cotton), with the construction (pocket count and divisions, neckline type, vents, waistband with elastic and drawcord), with trims such as press studs and cord, with the decoration method and the number of placements, with the number of colours and whether they are custom Pantone colours, with the quantity above the 300 minimum, and with labels and packing as sets or separates. The full breakdown is in the clothing manufacturing cost guide.
Producing in Turkey for European Brands
Türkiye sits on the road corridor into the EU, and under the EU–Türkiye Customs Union (Decision No 1/95 of the EC-Turkey Association Council) apparel in free circulation moves into the EU without customs duty when an A.TR movement certificate accompanies the shipment; import VAT still applies, and the A.TR evidences customs status rather than origin, as explained in A.TR and origin. The approved sample, pattern and colour standards are retained as references for repeat orders. Bulk production typically takes 4-5 weeks after approval; fabric availability and the schedule are confirmed for each reorder. Transport options are in shipping apparel from Turkey, and the wider case in nearshoring clothing production for European brands.

Questions this raises
What is the minimum for custom medical scrubs?
The minimum for custom medical scrubs is 300 pieces per colour and per style, with sizes split inside the 300; sublimation and custom Pantone colours carry the same minimum. How the 300 applies to a top-and-trouser set is confirmed at the quotation stage. Polyester-based fabrics are assessed separately.
How long does it take to make custom medical scrubs?
Making custom medical scrubs typically takes 5-7 business days for the sample, and 4-5 weeks for bulk production after sample approval. Development, fabric sourcing and shipping are additional.
Can you make medical scrubs to our own design and label?
Yes, every scrub set is made to your own design; there are no ready-made styles. Fabric, fit, pockets, colours, embroidery, labels and packing all follow your specification.
Are scrubs medical devices?
Scrubs sold as work clothing are not medical devices: the EU definition in Regulation (EU) 2017/745 depends on a stated medical purpose, and the FDA's surgical apparel rule excludes scrub suits. Voyager makes no device claim.
Do you make nurse uniforms and tunics?
Yes, nurse uniforms and tunics are made alongside scrub sets, including care-home, dental, veterinary and beauty tunics. Closures, collars and lengths follow your design and are confirmed per project at the quotation stage.
Do you make lab coats?
Yes, lab coats are made as woven workwear, usually in polyester-cotton twill with buttons or press studs and bartacked patch pockets. They are not protective equipment against chemical or biological hazards.
Can you make modest scrub sets?
Yes, modest scrub sets with longer tunics, full sleeves and covered necklines are made as separate patterns graded to your size chart. Each distinct garment style counts as its own style for the 300 minimum.
Planning a medical scrubs range?
Send the fabric, pocket layout, cuts, size chart, colours and the wash regime the garments must survive. We usually reply within one business day, sample in 5-7 business days, and quote from 300 pieces per colour and per style.
