Voyager Textile is a hoodie and sweatshirt manufacturer with its own cutting, sewing, embroidery and printing floor in Türkiye, producing for brands, merch, promotional, corporate and workwear programmes. Every order starts at 300 pieces per colour and per style, sizes can be split inside that 300, and the first sample takes 5-7 business days. Pullover hoodies, zip hoodies and crew-neck sweatshirts are all made to the buyer's fabric, fit, colour, trims, labels and packing; there are no stock styles.

Heavyweight, Oversized and Standard Hoodies: Fabric and Weight

French terry has an unbrushed looped reverse, while brushed sweatshirt fabric has a raised inner nap. Fabric weight and finish affect the feel and structure of a hoodie or sweatshirt. The table gives indicative weight bands, not standardized definitions of lightweight or heavyweight. Compare the options in the guides to French terry and brushed fleece and rib knit, and approve the fabric for the project.

A hood and its lining add fabric area and weight to the garment. GSM measures fabric mass per square metre. Pattern size, hood construction and lining choice determine consumption. If the fabric has a directional nap, the cutting layout must account for it and may use more fabric. Oversized proportions are developed through the pattern and checked across sizes. The streetwear guide discusses related design choices.

Buyer-supplied fabric is accepted, including imported fabric. Certified material options (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, GRS) can be sourced where specified, subject to availability and certificate scope. A material certificate does not by itself establish certification of Voyager Textile or the finished garment.

Construction: Hood, Pocket, Seams and Trims

A hoodie combines a sweatshirt body with a hood. Pockets, a front zip and other components depend on the design; their assembly sequence follows the agreed construction. See the hoodie manufacturing process page for the main production stages.

  • Hood. Options include two panels with a centre seam or three panels with a centre strip, lined or single-layer. Match the neckline attachment edge to the body pattern and specify the seam finish, such as tape or facing. See hood construction.
  • Eyelets and drawcord. Specify the drawcord channel, outlet position and reinforcement, using metal eyelets or stitched buttonholes as appropriate. Agree cord width, end finishing and finished length. Children's designs need assessment against the requirements described in the EN 14682 guide and the destination market's rules.
  • Kangaroo pocket. A patch pocket with two openings. Specify opening reinforcement and corner bartacks, such as stitch type 304, to suit the fabric and intended use. See kangaroo pockets.
  • Seams. Options include overedge stitches 504 or 514 for body seams and flatseam 607 where a low-profile join suits the fabric. Agree seam type, thread and settings through sampling. See stitch types page.
  • Rib trims. Cuffs and waistbands can use 1x1 or 2x2 rib. Specify fibre composition, finished dimensions and attachment ratio; assess stretch and recovery on the sample. See rib trims and neck finishing.

Zip Hoodies

A full-zip hoodie has two front panels. Specify the zip type and length by size, tape colour and puller, together with the pocket layout, waistband ends and any chin guard. Choose front-edge stabilisation to suit the fabric and zip, and check alignment on the sample; see zip and closure construction. Zip type, supplier and any custom puller are confirmed per project at quotation.

Crew-Neck Sweatshirts

Crew-neck sweatshirts can use French terry or brushed sweatshirt fabric. The neckline, rib recovery and fabric dimensional stability need attention in sampling. The sweatshirt manufacturing process page covers cutting and assembly, including optional V-inserts and set-in or raglan sleeves.

  • Neck. Options include a 1x1 or 2x2 rib attached to the neckline, shoulder stabilisation and a triangular V-insert at centre front, as specified.
  • Sleeves. Set-in for a classic shape or raglan for a sportier one; the two are different patterns, so a change between them is a new development.
  • Minimum. A crew-neck sweatshirt and a hoodie in the same fabric and colour are two styles, each with its own 300 pieces.
  • Decoration. The flat front suits large chest prints, chenille letters and appliqué, and the same in-house and partner methods apply as on hoodies.

Decoration on Fleece and Terry

Embroidery, transfer printing and sublimation run in the Voyager factory; screen printing, puff print and garment washing are coordinated with partner facilities. Decoration can be applied to flat panels before assembly or to the assembled garment, depending on the method, placement and construction. Check access and support around hoods, pockets, zips and rib trims during sampling.

Embroidery size and position limits are set out in embroidery placement and size, and washed finishes in the garment washing guide.

Sizing, Tests and Packing

Sizes are graded to your size chart. Beyond body length from the high point of the shoulder, chest, shoulder and sleeve length, a hoodie needs hood height and depth, cuff and waistband depth, waistband width relaxed, and pocket placement measured from the hem and centre front, each with a tolerance. The chart format is covered in size charts for production.

A buyer can write these tests into a hoodie or sweatshirt specification, with the laboratory and acceptance limits agreed per project:

  • Dimensional change: use the agreed washing and drying procedure from ISO 6330 and determine dimensional change according to ISO 5077; see measurement change after washing.
  • Pilling: select an appropriate method, such as ISO 12945-1 (pilling box) or ISO 12945-2 (modified Martindale), and agree the test duration and acceptance rating. These methods are distinct; see fabric pilling.
  • Colourfastness: ISO 105-C06 to washing, ISO 105-E04 to perspiration and ISO 105-X12 to rubbing, the last one relevant for dark fleece; see colourfastness.
  • Bursting strength: ISO 13938-2 for the knitted body fabric.

A hoodie folds bulkier than a tee, so the fold size, polybag, hangtag and carton count per size are specified up front; see folding and polybagging.

For Brands, Merch, Promotional, Corporate and Workwear Programmes

Brands

Choose fabric weight, fit and decoration for the intended collection. See streetwear guide for streetwear, activewear page for activewear and private label clothing for the private-label production route.

Merch

Merch options include a large back print through partner screen printing or a chenille or 3D puff chest logo made in our factory. Washed finishes are coordinated with partner facilities. Choose fabric weight and fit for the programme; see merch manufacturing page.

Promotional

For promotional programmes, agree fabric composition and weight, colours and decoration with the distributor. Check dimensional change and colourfastness against the intended care conditions; a cotton/polyester blend alone does not establish performance. Unbranded garments can be made to the distributor's specification for later decoration. See promotional textiles page.

Corporate

Corporate sweatshirts and zip hoodies can include embroidered logos or names. Specify body, zip-tape and drawcord colours. Custom Pantone colours start at 300 pieces per colour and style; polyester-based fabrics are assessed separately for the colour process. See corporate clothing page.

Workwear

For workwear sweatshirts and zip hoodies, specify fabric, decoration and tests for the intended washing and workplace conditions. Where loose drawcords are unsuitable, specify a cord-free design. Replacing metal eyelets with stitched buttonholes does not remove the loose-cord hazard. See workwear page.

What Changes the Unit Cost of Hoodies and Sweatshirts

The unit cost of a custom hoodie or sweatshirt moves with fabric composition and weight, with nap-direction cutting and oversized patterns that raise fabric consumption, with construction (a lined three-panel hood, a pocket, a zip), with trims (zip, eyelets, cord, custom puller), with the decoration method and the number of placements, with the number of colours in the order, with the quantity above the 300 minimum, and with labels and packing. The full breakdown is in the clothing manufacturing cost guide.

Producing in Turkey for European Brands

Türkiye sits on the road corridor into the EU, and under the EU–Türkiye Customs Union (Decision No 1/95 of the EC-Turkey Association Council) apparel in free circulation moves into the EU without customs duty when an A.TR movement certificate accompanies the shipment; import VAT still applies, and the A.TR evidences customs status rather than origin, as explained in A.TR and origin. Plan the order around the required delivery date. Bulk production typically takes 4-5 weeks after approval; development, sampling and shipping are additional, and the project schedule is confirmed at quotation. Transport options are in shipping apparel from Turkey, and the wider case in nearshoring clothing production for European brands.

Questions this raises

What is the minimum for custom hoodies?

The minimum for custom hoodies is 300 pieces per colour and per style, and the same applies to zip hoodies and sweatshirts. Sizes can be split inside the 300; sublimation and custom Pantone colours carry the same minimum. The colour process for polyester-based fabrics is assessed separately.

How long does it take to make custom hoodies?

Making custom hoodies takes 5-7 business days for the sample, and typically 4-5 weeks for bulk production after sample approval. Development, fabric and trim sourcing and shipping are additional.

Can you make hoodies to our own design and label?

Yes, every hoodie is made to your own design; there are no ready-made styles. Fabric, fit, hood, trims, decoration, labels, hangtags and packing all follow your specification.

What GSM is a heavyweight hoodie?

In this guide, heavyweight examples use fabric around 380-500 g/m², compared with around 300-350 g/m² for standard-weight examples. These are indicative fabric-weight ranges, not fixed product categories; composition, construction and finish are specified per project.

Do you make crew-neck sweatshirts as well as hoodies?

Yes, crew-neck sweatshirts are made in the same French terry and fleece as hoodies, with set-in or raglan sleeves and an optional V-insert. A sweatshirt and a hoodie are separate styles, each from 300 pieces per colour.

Can children's hoodies have drawcords?

Under EN 14682, clothing for young children must not have drawstrings or functional cords in the head, neck or upper-chest area. Requirements differ for older children and by cord type. Assess the design against the full applicable standard and destination-market rules; see hood construction.

Do you make zip hoodies?

Yes. Specify the full-length zip and its length by size, front-edge stabilisation, pocket layout, puller and any chin guard. The catalogue includes three zip hoodie references from previous production.

Planning a hoodie or sweatshirt order?

Send the fabric and weight, hood construction, trims, size chart and artwork, or a reference hoodie you want matched. We reply with what is missing, sample in 5-7 business days, and quote from 300 pieces per colour and per style.
