How a lab coat is built
A lab coat is a woven coat worn over everyday clothes, cut to the hip or knee, with a front closure of buttons or press studs and patch pockets at the chest and hips. It is patterned with ease for reaching and sitting, and longer styles often have a back vent.
Polyester-cotton twill is the usual cloth because it keeps its size and colour through frequent hot washing. Studs replace buttons where laundering is industrial, and pocket corners are bartacked. A coat meant to protect against a chemical or biological hazard is regulated protective equipment.
