How a polo shirt is built
A polo shirt adds three components a T-shirt does not have: a collar, a buttoned placket and usually a knitted rib cuff. The body is normally cotton piqué, while the collar and cuffs are flat-knitted to size as separate pieces and shade-matched to the body.
The placket is set into the front before the shoulders are joined, and its two halves must meet level with the buttons on the centre front line. Side vents are reinforced at the top, and chest embroidery is worked on the cut panel before assembly.
