How a fleece jacket is built
A fleece jacket, also sold as a polar fleece, is usually a single layer of brushed polyester knit, raised on one or both faces, with no lining. The fabric does not fray, so collar, cuff and hem edges are often bound rather than turned and hemmed.
It differs from a softshell in having no woven face or laminate, so it is warm for its weight but gives little wind protection. Pilling is the main quality risk on a raised surface, and embroidery needs a backing so the stitches do not sink into the pile.
- Fabric
- Brushed polyester fleece, single or double sided
- Construction
- Unlined; full zip, half zip or pullover; stand collar and zipped hand pockets
- Decoration
- Flat, 3D puff and appliqué embroidery in-house; transfers tested for heat on the pile
- Testing
- ISO 12945-1 or -2 for pilling, ISO 4484-1 for fibre shedding, as specified by the buyer
