How a skirt is built
A skirt is defined by silhouette first: straight or pencil, A-line, flared, pleated, wrap, or a sports skirt with a built-in short. Pattern balance between front and back is what makes it hang level, and the two lengths are specified separately because the back usually needs more.
The waist is a separate interlined band, a facing or elastic, with a concealed zip at centre back as the tailored standard. Pleats hold permanently only when heat-set on polyester-rich cloth; on cotton or viscose they are stitched down or need pressing after washing.
- Typical fabrics
- Gabardine and twill, crepe, poplin, ponte, polyester with elastane, denim

- Cotton gabardine roughly 250 to 280 g/m² (indicative, specified per project)
- Lining
- Optional; cut shorter than the shell and left free at the hem
- Decoration
- Embroidery or transfers on the flat panel before assembly
