How cargo trousers are built
Cargo trousers carry patch pockets on the thigh built for weight: pleats, bellows or gussets give volume, and a flap closes each pocket with hook and loop, a snap or a button. Placement matters, because a pocket set too high is unusable and one set too low swings as the wearer walks.
The load makes the attachment structural, so bartacks at the top corners and flap ends are specified by number and position. Work versions add knee-pad pockets, and lightweight ripstop versions need more reinforcement at stress points than a heavier twill.
- Typical fabrics
- Polyester-cotton workwear twill, cotton twill or canvas, ripstop
- Indicative weight
- Workwear twill roughly 195 to 300 g/m², canvas roughly 270 to 410 g/m² (indicative, specified per project)
- Knee-pad pockets
- Fit checked with the buyer's EN 14404 knee pad; no protective claim for the trousers
- Laundering
- ISO 15797 industrial wash testing where the buyer specifies it
