How a windbreaker is built

A windbreaker is a lightweight woven shell, often packable, made from tightly woven polyester or polyamide with a water-repellent finish. It resists wind and light showers only. Its seams are not sealed, which is the difference between a windbreaker and a rain jacket.

Many are full-zip with a hood, elasticated or tabbed cuffs and a hem drawcord, and many are unlined or mesh-lined for ventilation. Light and coated shells are heat-sensitive, so transfers are tested at the right temperature before bulk and embroidery is kept small.
