How a crop top is built
A crop top is a knit top cut short so the hem sits above the waist, in jersey with elastane for everyday styles or in polyester or polyamide with elastane for activewear. The exposed hem carries the garment, finished with coverstitch, a rib band or an elastic band.
Fitted crop tops rely on stretch and recovery, so the fabric is approved for opacity when stretched. Activewear crop tops are cut-and-sew, not seamless knitted, with flatlock or coverstitched seams and, on sports styles, a lining or double layer at the front.
- Typical fabrics
- Single jersey with elastane, rib knit, polyester or polyamide with elastane

- Cut-and-sew; coverstitch (ISO 600 class) or flatseam (ISO 607)
- Decoration
