How a bomber jacket is built
A bomber jacket is a short jacket, usually two layers of woven shell and lining, finished with a rib collar, rib cuffs and a rib hem band that gathers the body into a blouson shape. The rib trims separate it from a field jacket with a plain or tabbed hem.
The rib is knitted separately, so it is shade-matched to the shell and has to recover after repeated stretching. The front zip runs from the hem band to the collar, and a sleeve pocket is a common detail. Adding wadding turns it into a three-layer build.
- Shell fabrics
- Polyester or polyamide wovens such as taslan, or cotton twill
- Trims
- Rib collar, cuffs and hem band, usually with elastane for recovery
- Layers
- Shell and lining; wadding optional, fill confirmed per project at the quotation stage
- Decoration
- Chest and sleeve embroidery or patches in-house, applied to the shell before lining
